Glad to see other responses to the Forum. I was getting tired of seeing my old, tired face!  Before I forget, Happy Birthday to Glenda (Killingsworth) Ursua, Kathy (Bermudez) Forcum, Carolyn (Kirkendall) Johnson and Ray Koehler.  I know I have missed someone and I apologize.

Need input for the 45th.  Likes and dislikes from previous Reunions would be good to tell us about.  Sometimes the timing is not good as was told to me by Marvin Williams.  We try to accommodate as many as we can on all fronts.  Getting together is the goal.

RIP Vyrlanne

I am still out here in Arkansas.  I am heart sick about hearing about Vyrlanne.  She was my go to when I would come out to visit. She would catch me up on everyone and just make me feel so wonderful about coming home.  She was a wonderful friend.  I miss her and pray for her family.

I can not make any suggestions for any places or what to do as I was only able to attend the 10 year reunion.  I have a nine year old son that has school.  I am hoping to be able to go to the next one as I am home schooling now and can take him with me.

I sure hope to see you all then.  Anytime any of you all are this way, come on by, have an extra bed.

Pat McCain

Pat, thanks for your response and remembrance of Vyrlanne. I think I still remember we were in a science class together with Mr. Wipf, and we spent time dissecting a cat.....ughhhh!!! Well, anyway, so much for that adventure. I was very fortunate to recently go on an Honor Flight to Washington DC as a guardian for WWII veterans. It was a great honor and thrill. (If anyone ever has the opportunity to go on one of these Honor Flights, take it, you will awed by these great men and women, who are now all in their late 80's, 90's and some over 100!). It was a one day trip to DC, and it is impossible to see everything. But we did see a few things, including the WWII Memorial and Korean War Memorial, and I could look across the way and see the Viet Nam Memorial. It reminded me of Tehachapi High School fellow students Manuel Casares and Bob Cote, whose names are on that wall. I still remember Bob Cote playing on the basketball team....maybe the best Warrior basketball team ever, with Bob, Tim Sanders, Dan Henderson, Larry Matthews and my cousin Ric Davies, and others I can't remember. (I'm sure Janette taught Tim how to play basketball!!!!) They were amazing. The thing I remember most is that Bob Cote was the best high school free throw shooter I ever saw. I don't think he ever missed a shot! Anyway, it was an overpowering experience to see the whole Washington DC arrangement....I had never been there!!

Once again, my mind has wandered around, bouncing from here to there and everywhere, remembering long ago "stuff"! I hope fellow '70 classmates are hanging in there. The "heavy hitters" (Manuel, Yolanda, Kathy, etc., etc.) have been slacking off on communications again. You all provide great entertainment and bring back so many memories. Please take care everyone, be healthy, and look forward to hearing from you....John

I am back down from the mountain again.  This year I was the youngest of the group.  This is not necessarily a bad thing unless you are cutting wood with a chainsaw and then the young guy has to climbed up and down mountains on hands and knees.  Oh, and you have to breath also?  My knee replacement did great and now only my ankle is bothering me. Ah, the Golden Years!

Saw DeAnna's update to her profile.  She has quite the good looking family.  Also Susan Gilliland Close has a Birthday coming up and I wish her the best as I have done with the past celebrations.

Good to hear from East Coast John.  When he does send in comments, they are insightful and informative.  I too remember the classmates who did not return from Viet Nam.  Another tragic time in US history.

Get the word out about our next Reunion!  Hope to see al the smiling faces of old and new ones.

Manuel

Happy Birthday to Debbie White (Taylor)! Now, I am not sure if the people having birthdays in the recent last few months were still on the bottle when they started school or were shaving like Larry M., Dae L. and Manuel A.! Just kidding!  Wherever anyone was in the age spectrum of our class, we had a good class. When I read the number of graduates in the recent classes, I feel fortunate our class and even our school was small enough to be manageable. By manageable, I mean everyone knew or knew of everyone. I guess we had the same issues and problems that are going on at THS now but it was on a lower scale. Anyway, Happy Birthday to you two and I am sure John D. will tip one on the East Coast with me on the West Coast to you.

Manuel

It's good to have you back to civilization "Mountain Man Manuel"!!! Yes I will definitely tip two in honor of Debbie's birthday and Marvin's too, and I think it's possible I might have missed a couple of other birthdays along the way, so I better go ahead and tip a couple more so they are all covered, huh??!! It's difficult to imagine another year is almost gone. It's possible we will all get old if this stuff keeps happening so fast. Tomorrow is the 51st anniversary of the Kennedy assassination....hard to believe. All of us still remembers the day it happened. I can remember Mrs. Reiswig (Randy's Mom), who worked in the principal's office (was is Mr. Wells??), came to Mr. Rogers 6th grade class and told him the news mid-morning. He wrote a note on the chalk board telling us of the whole incident. I remember being out on the playground after lunch, talking with Tom Booth. We were both trying to remember who the vice president was, since he would become the president. I remember us thinking his last name was Brown...we were obviously not much into political things at the time. Maybe 6th grade kids had different things on their minds....I can't remember, since it was over a half-century ago! It looks like winter is upon us. It has been in the 50's and 60's in Florida the past few days....absolutely brutal I tell you....brrrrr!!! Well anyway, I wanted to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving (the one day a year we AREN'T what we eat!!!!) and hope everyone is happy and healthy. Back to my cage now.....take care all!!!...John

I know you have all been waiting on my latest post on the Message Forum so here it is.  By the way, I decided to keep the picture you see because the reality view of my current mug is not as "pretty."

First of all, Happy Birthday to Jim Wright and DeAnna Gassaway (Brooks)!  Remember, it is the day that is important and not the number!  DeAnna's is coming up but I, and I am sure John on the East Coast, will celebrate with the customary drink of choice!  Maybe a couple of drinks of choice!

I read the updates on the Profiles for Yolanda and Marvin.  Glad to see the website is being used by other classmates.  Actually saw Yolanda an Steve at a Reunion meeting, yes it is coming up!  Also in attendance were Debbie (Dan), Janette (Kent), Larry who brought along Rusty!, and Dae.  Start making plans for the Reunion!

Glad to see Marvin retired and is going to travel.  Hope their plans include stopping by old Tehachapi to see a few classmates.  As we have noticed the last few years, making it to our age more or less intact is some kind of feat to be celebrated every day.  So, I think I will have another drink of choice.  What about you John?  In case you are worried about me turning into an alcoholic, do not worry.  I am a happy drinker!

Until the next time,  Manuel

Manuel, thanks for reminding me of DeAnna's and Marvin's milestones.....and yes I did take the time to honor them appropriately as you would guess!! I still remember riding the school bus as a kid in the mornings when I lived up in the Mountain Park. They would pick me (and my brother) up at the bottom of the hill on Highline Road and we would head out near the road to Cummings Valley and pick up those students who had been picked by by the "Porter bus", then we would go out through the old-old-old Old Town area and pick up DeAnna and a bunch of other kids. She sat by me one day....I still remember it (she was a good kid)!!! Then of course, Marvin and I and a whole bunch of others were part of the "Marty Sullivan (Katie's Dad) smudge crew" who "lived" in an old "barracks" and tried to keep the orchards from freezing in the winter months. I think we earned $2 per night by being there, and $5 if we actually had to go out and light the smudge pots.....I think I still have some residual soot in my eyes/nose from some of those smudge pot malfunctions...ahhh, those were the days.

It sounds like the reunion committee is on track with some new summer adventures for the class of '70!!! I look forward to hearing about it. Not much of a winter in Florida again this year....no snow in central Florida....25 years now!!! At my tender age, the cold weather just doesn't work any more, so I am happy. It is still good to hear of familiar names in the class of '70....sadly we lost a couple in recent times. I hope everyone else is doing reasonably well. Let's slow down on these birthdays. We are all still just kids, at least in our hearts and memories. Everyone please take care, and rest assured Manuel and I (and others I'm sure) will continue to honor each and every classmate in the greatest class EVER!!!!!!!!!.....John

I would have sent this congratulatory birthday message out sooner but I had celebrated the birthdays and upcoming birthdays all at the same time and was unable. However I feel better and here I am. Hope Dave Edmiston, Shirley McCain (Nelson), John and Sally Warfield had a good Birthday and many more.

Attended a Reunion Meeting tasks were were actually thought of by Debbie Janette and Yolanda and contemplated by Larry, Dae and me.  Just so there are no mistakes made or assumed, Larry, Dae and I are there for our looks only and a little bit of possible braun if possibly needed.  Debbie, Janette and Yolanda are the intelligence of the group.  We hope the attendance will at least be the same if not more this year and classmates will come to talk about old times and how their lives have changed.

Manuel

Just want to send a special birthday wish to Kathy Bermudez. Hope your day has been wonderful. Looking forward to seeing you and everyone else in August.

Thank you for the birthday well wishes and I'm looking forward to seeing all you young people.

Now that we're 36 or close to it we might even have to grow up.

Thanks again and God Bless you all and keep you.

Happy Birthday to Kathy and Janette and Frank. It will be a great honor to celebrate this occasion.....Manuel, it seems our work is never done here!!!! Ah, it's a good thing to be able to give a toast to such great people. Why am I sitting here remembering the time in Mr. Kinder's freshman civics class (or whatever class it was!) when "someone" put corn nuts inside the projector lens that Mr. Kinder was going to use for his class presentation that day, and when he turned on the projector.....uh, well, uh, let's just say the teacher was somewhat miffed!!! Yes, I know, I am trying to grow up....but I'm not quite there yet....well anyway, Happy Birthday again....please, let's slow these things down. I am starting to feel old when I get out of bed each morning and hear the familiar sound of "snap, crackle, pop".....unfortunately it is coming from my legs, not from my bowl of cereal!!!! Take care everyone.....John

I have been pacing myself the last few months celebrating birthdays. I waited to see who would be turning the "Golden 60 Something+" and compile them for a celebration. Happy Birthday to Mary Ursua, Susan Willard (Whitton/McPhee) and Janette Sanders (Ashworth).  I did have a drink with Janette, or rather I had a drink, to celebrate her birthday during a Reunion Meeting.  The ladies, Debbie, Janette and Yolanda, actually accomplished something constructive during the meeting while the guys, Dae, Larry and I, worked in a stupervisory capacity.  Of course we did well.

Some flyers have been returned undeliverable from last known addresses of classmates.  It would help if you know where any classmate lives to contact them and ask if they are interested in coming to the Reunion and if they are, provide them with the information to contact the committee.  I know as I approach "Middle Age" I enjoy meeting and talking with classmates.  I know there are some in Tehachapi still but since I do not go into town much, I do not see them.  Town has changed and we have new important people who see Tehachapi moving in a different direction. Sometimes I do not agree with them so I try to stay out of their way.  Is that how old people get?

Manuel

I see from the website new birthdays are approaching.  To Rick Davis, Yolanda Vasquez Gum and my drinking buddy John Davies, Happy birthday!!!  As I sit here listening to a CD of The Associations Greatest Hits and reminiscing, I remember who started me on my downward spiral of alcoholic debauchery, Rick Davis, the person to whom I now am drinking a birthday salute, along with Yolanda and John of course.  Yolanda and John did not start me on my debauchery, just Rick.  We all have memories of our "First Time."  On this occasion, Rick made me drink warm Colt 45 beer.  Do they even make it anymore?  Anyway, it was OK to drink it because I was a few months shy of turning 21, about 70 months or so.  I remember having such a good time I did not have alcohol again until a few months later, maybe about 12 or so.  Well, the Association is winding down so I will stop my reminiscing and have a drink to celebrate the Birthday Kids.

Manuel and John - thank you for the birthday wishes and thank you for keeping this website going.  And of course Happy Birthday to John and Rick who share my birthday month!  I am so glad to reach this fine age of 63!  Isn't that how old we are this year??  I too can remember drinking "Country Club" but unlike Manuel and Rick we got our warm beer and poured it into a cup of ice that we got from the Burger Spot.  Nothing like water-downed beer - but at least it was iced cold!!  I am looking forward to seeing everyone at the reunion and being able to reminise about the good old days in Tehachapi.

Manuel - thank you for downing a drink to celebrate all the birthdays of the Class of 1970!

Happy Birthday to Yolanda, hi friend, hope to see you at the reunion. Happy Birthday to Rick, we better see you at the reunion, and John, Happy  birthday to you, better be there. Enjoy it, it's your day. Love you guys and see u soon

I see Larry M has a birthday soon. Hey Larry, maybe we can dust off the old catcher's mitts and have Manuel throw some of his "100 mph" fastballs and see if we can still catch them, huh??!! We can go out on the old Warrior baseball field in the weeds at the old high school and celebrate the good old days one more time. But I'm not sure I can squat down low enough to dig any errant pitches from Manuel out of the dirt. Afterward we can go to a local "facility" and get adult liquids to wash down the dust and dirt from the baseball field, and celebrate another big birthday. I think we can do that part of it!!! Anyway, Happy Birthday Larry....hope to see you soon. I hope everyone is hanging in there and having a great summer. Take care all.....John

Kathy, glad to see you are reading the Forum and making responses.  If anyone else is reading it, they must be tired of seeing my worn out old face.  Actually spent time with Kathy and Steve with Debbie (Mungia) and Dan Knowles a week or so ago.  Had a wonderful time.  I did notice how we are not quick to make decisions or to act upon the decisions we do finally make.  I prefer to call such contemplation, Wisdom.

Now about Larry's BDay.  I just saw him at a Reunion Meeting very recently and drank a beer to celebrate the upcoming occasion.  It was hard not to do so for Larry was announcing to the Committee and adjoining tables it was coming up.  I made sure I only ordered the 25 oz glass because I knew I would celebrate it later also.  I made sure it was also my lunch.  Retired now, fixed income don't you know.  John, you are officially notified you are behind.  I am sure you have heard this from other sources but, "IF I knew I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself."  Now about the baseball.  I have not touched a baseball to pitch for many and many a year.  I'm not sure if I could reach either one of you from the pitching mound.  And the mound is closer because the Warrior Softball team still uses the old baseball field to practice and play games.  You can be sure anything thrown by me at this point would be errant.  Done rambling for now.  I will tell Larry in person Happy BDay when next I see him.

Manuel

Manuel/John

I would like to take a brief moment to make a point and clarify another. First it should be known that I have enjoyed commenting on our website but for reasons unknown I have always sent private messages. This may indeed be my first public forum statement. Second with respect to Manuel's pithching ability who better to comment than the one who caught the pitches (shared responsibility with Larry (Babe Ruth) at THS but caught all of Manua'ls pitches in Babe Ruth! From this experience I can say we won many a games with Manuel on the mound and the one thing I recall was Manuel had great ball control and his consistency is what brought him back again and again to the mound. However it should be mentioned that it was Manuel who broke Steve Helm's leg in a football contest after Manuel defected to Paraclete. Who won that game? Anyone??

Rick

If my memory is correct, and I'm sure it is, we beat their butts. Manuel was great, but there was no way we were going to let him beat us  We never lost to Paraclete during our High School years. If he would of stayed true to his school, we would of won CIF Just saying..

Thanks John, that sounds like fun.  It would really be funny to see if any of us could do such a thing.. I think maybe going to the pub, and having a few drinks would be about all were physically able to do anymore. Wouldn't it be fun to get all the class mates together for a little softball game after the reunion..  I bet we would be droping like flies.  Hope you can make it out for the  this year..
